New Cobham House

Blackfriars Lane, London

Cobham House is a heritage property in central London, originally constructed in 1632. Its basement had been left severely water damaged after flooding and defective external drainage, leaving the fabric of the walls saturated and at risk of ongoing deterioration.

AreaSq Limited, the main contractor, engaged Fresh Breeze Home to deliver the specialist damp proofing works after previous remedial efforts had proven ineffective.

When our team arrived, parts of the basement walls had already been stripped back to brick. However, no specialist waterproofing measures had been applied. Our survey highlighted widespread penetrative damp issues, making it essential to adopt a robust and guaranteed treatment plan. Because of the building’s age and historic value, all works had to be undertaken with care, following RAMS agreed with the client.

Our CSCS-approved engineers delivered the works while holding daily toolbox talks, ensuring full compliance with site health and safety, and verifying all equipment through PAT testing before use.

The remedial specification included stripping the remaining defective finishes, treating the masonry, installing an appropriate damp proofing system, and replastering to restore the basement to a usable standard. By handing back a dry, structurally sound basement with a full guarantee, the client received not just a repair but a long-term solution – a critical difference in safeguarding such a historically important property.
